Nail Biting - What Does It Want To Tell Us Parents?

Been seeing this thing on the two little ones for several instances already - mostly when I was away working. On cam I would see them bite their nails just suddenly. Often times I would tell them that that is bad and they might get germs and parasites.

But for us parents, what is this action or behaviour want to tell us?

According to Mr. Wiki:
Nail biting is considered an impulse control disorder in the DSM-IV-R; the ICD-10 classifies it as "other specified behavioral and emotional disorders with onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescence
True enough that nail biting could lead to cuticle break ups and could be an entry for parasites. But what troubles me is it says that nail biting is more common with children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder!

Oh, hinde. Wag naman sana. I do not want to believer that my kids nail biting is a sign of a more serious problem. I would look for an answer to this.

:(
